The City of Santa Ana’s new Mayor and three new City Councilmembers will take office tonight in a virtual special meeting that the public is invited to watch beginning at 6 p.m.
This is a historic and notable Council installation, with Santa Ana’s first new mayor in 26 years, its first Vietnamese American Councilmember, and now four Millennials seated on the Council. Taking office are:
• Mayor Vicente Sarmiento
• Councilmember Thai Viet Phan, Ward 1
• Councilmember Jessie Lopez, Ward 3
• Councilmember Johnathan Ryan Hernandez, Ward 5
The outgoing Mayor and City Council will first vote to certify the results of the Nov. 3 General Municipal Election. That will be followed by the installation of the new members and the election of a new Mayor Pro Tem.
The City Council installation has been pre-recorded to protect against COVID-19 and there will not be an in-person meeting. The installation includes the Oath of Office and a video celebration with contributions from community members.
