In a powerful show of grassroots resistance, hundreds of activists from across Orange County and Southern California are expected to gather tomorrow morning at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library & Museum in Yorba Linda, on Wednesday, Sep. 10, at 8:30 a.m.
The protest rally, organized by the Visibility Brigade and supported by OC Indivisible Coalition and the 50501 Movement Orange County, aims to send a clear message to Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who will be speaking at the Nixon Library: “ICE OUT OF OC!”
The protest comes in response to recent Supreme Court decisions that have sparked outrage among immigrant rights advocates and constitutional scholars alike. Just this week, the Court upheld broad “roving” enforcement powers for ICE in Southern California and sanctioned racial profiling by federal agents—moves that activists say threaten civil liberties and disproportionately harm immigrant communities.
Justice Barrett is scheduled to appear at the Nixon Library as part of a press tour promoting her new book, entitled “Listening to the Law.”
Protest organizers have criticized the timing and intent of her visit, accusing her of prioritizing personal financial gain while the Court enables policies they describe as unconstitutional and destructive.
