Police officers were out in full force at this weekend’s Cars ‘N Copters event and throughout the surrounding Downtown area this weekend, ensuring visibility and safety for everyone in attendance, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.

While the majority of attendees enjoyed the event responsibly, officers quickly responded to an unruly crowd that gathered on PCH. Thanks to their swift action, the situation was safely brought under control.
Traffic Enforcement:

  • 11 citations
  • 2 vehicle impounds
  • Patrol Enforcement:
    • 6 parking citations
    • 2 misdemeanor citations (Reckless driving and vandalism)

The HBPD appreciates everyone who cooperated with their officers and helped keep the area safe.

Reckless driving and unlawful behavior will not be tolerated in Huntington Beach. They welcome law abiding visitors to enjoy community events responsibly and in accordance with the law.

Based on California law and Huntington Beach enforcement practices, here are the penalties the suspects may face from the CARS ’N COPTERS weekend incident:


Traffic Enforcement Penalties

11 Citations:

  • Likely include infractions such as speeding, illegal lane changes, or equipment violations.
  • Penalties: Fines typically range from $100 to $500 depending on the violation, plus possible DMV points.

2 Vehicle Impounds:

  • Impoundment may occur due to reckless driving, lack of registration, or other violations.
  • Penalties:
    • Towing and storage fees often exceed $300–$1,000
    • Vehicle may be held for up to 30 days
    • Owner must provide proof of ownership and pay all fees to retrieve the vehicle

Patrol Enforcement Penalties

6 Parking Citations:

  • Issued for violations like illegal parking, expired meters, or blocking access.
  • Penalties:
    • Fines typically range from $40 to $100
    • Failure to pay may result in additional fees or DMV registration holds

2 Misdemeanor Citations:

Reckless Driving (California Vehicle Code § 23103):

  • Misdemeanor offense
  • Penalties:
    • 5 to 90 days in county jail
    • Fines from $145 to $1,000
    • 2 points on the driver’s license
    • Possible license suspension and insurance rate increases

Vandalism (California Penal Code § 594):

  • Misdemeanor or felony, depending on damage amount
  • Penalties:
    • Up to 1 year in county jail
    • Fines up to $1,000 (or more if damage exceeds $400)
    • Restitution to the victim for property damage
    • Possible community service and probation
