The HOPE Coalition of Orange County announces a new Scholarship.  Click here to download the application, which is due by March 15.

Rules:

1. Must be an Orange County Resident
2. Applicant must be a:
• AB540 student, Immigrant student, Graduate student
3. Front page should be most recent Personal Resume ( include 2 references)
4. Be enrolled in:
• Adult Education Center, Community College, or University
• Copy of Unofficial Transcripts
5. Applicant must volunteer at least 10 hours of community service at any institution, non- profit, church, shelter, clinic, etc that offers any type of services to help our Orange County underrepresented community; (please note that applicant cannot choose any entity in which they have been or are already a part of at the moment).

Please include a flyer(s) or pamphlet(s) from volunteering place

• Write a two page essay with the following information:
• What social issue is important to you and why
• Why is it important to help out in your community
• If you could have five minutes with President Barrack Obama what would
you tell him
• History of place where you volunteered at, who you worked with, duties (if
any), what is the population they mainly serve, and what did you learn

The HOPE Coalition presented “Generations of outpouring Hopelessness and lost DREAMS: Finding a Solution,” on January 28, 2011 at 6:00pm at Betsy Ross Elementary.

The Mission

Our goal as HOPE Coalition of OC is to address different issues that our underrepresented communities face in Orange County.

The Vision

This Coalition/ network is a grassroots movement that has developed through our growing needs in O.C. We are hoping to form a bond that will be everlasting amongst all organizations that worked here in Orange County in various issues with the intent to improve our lives as human beings. We are hoping to become unbreakable by any means from any entity that is against the well being of the beautiful communities we call home.

This Coalition will encompasses any existing or future organization who is willing to help in Any Civil rights issues; whether its helping in higher education, labor rights, criminal justice, civil rights , religious rights, sexual orientation, resources, financial and any minority and immigration issues. We need every Organization who is willing to “think outside the box” to together envision new strategies that will be impactful not only locally but Nationwide. We believe it is our responsibility to prevent the continuing intolerance for under-represented communities and to continue to self-empower Orange County communities to step up for America and show leadership that civil rights advocates will follow.

Purpose for Event:

To find a solution four our DREAMERS today.

1. Dr. Gonzales presented his research that supports how it has become a multi-generational issue,

2. Addressed the hopelessness in a failed DREAM;

· Tearing Families Apart: Where is our children’s future

· The hope of a better future through higher education

· Hopelessness: Not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel

3. Finding a way as OC Organizations and Community leaders to make a difference.

January 28, 2011 Event Evaluation

All in all our event went wonderful! The school was beautiful, the location was perfect, the school staff was tremendously helpful. We had an attendance of 77 OC members from various areas.

Moving forward

Many of our leaders and organizations want to be able to work together although there are various issues we all need to address most are willing to meet in common ground to be able to work together. We hope that most of us understand that a fragmented and divided grassroots movement will only have minimal achievements. Our capacities as individual entities may not be vast, but together we can have even greater achievements .
