Ride Metrolink and Experience San Juan Capistrano

Riders can win free Metrolink tickets and enjoy food and music at the event

ORANGE – Free food, music and a chance to win Metrolink tickets will be part of a Saturday, June 8 kick-off event in Santa Ana as the Orange County Transportation Authority invites residents to “Make it Your Mission to Experience San Juan Capistrano” by rail.

The event begins at the Santa Ana Transportation Center, where San Juan Capistrano Mayor John Taylor and Mayor Pro Tem Sam Allevato are expected to attend the short celebration before joining passengers on the train to San Juan Capistrano for a day in Orange County’s oldest community.

Those who bring a non-perishable food item donation for Second Food Harvest can spin the prize wheel for a chance to win free Metrolink tickets and other prizes.

Riders will take advantage of Metrolink’s $10 Weekend Pass, which allows residents to ride to any Metrolink destination all weekend long. The pass, good from Friday evening to midnight Sunday, also includes free rail and bus connections throughout Southern California.

The train to San Juan Capistrano will depart at 9:40 a.m. from the Santa Ana Station, 1000 E. Santa Ana Blvd., 92701. When arriving in San Juan Capistrano, passengers will be greeted by members of Spurs and Satin, 1880s wild west re-enactors. Members of the San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce will also be on hand to guide visitors to Mission San Juan Capistrano, ZOOMARS Petting Zoo and other shopping and entertainment destinations within easy walking distance of the Metrolink station. The Mission that morning is featuring “Mariachis at the Mission.”

Once in San Juan Capistrano riders can also show their Metrolink ticket to receive discounts including:

· Half price admission to The Mission

· A free meal at Sarducci’s with the purchase of a regular meal

· Half price admission to Zoomar’s Petting Zoo

· A buy one get one free coffee or dessert at Rick’s Café

Nearly two dozen other businesses are offering shopping and dining specials, from a free arrowhead at the Capistrano Trading Post to free bike rentals at Buy My Bikes to a free concession item with ticket purchase at the Camino Real Playhouse.
