On the evening of July 21, 2023, at around 7:45 p.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) responded to reports of a traffic collision at the intersection of Irvine Boulevard and Marketplace. Their partners at the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded as well to assist.

The initial investigation determined a black Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on Irvine Boulevard toward Marketplace. A female pedestrian was walking northbound on Marketplace, in the crosswalk, when she was struck by the vehicle.

The female pedestrian sustained serious injuries from the collision and was determined to be deceased at the scene. The female pedestrian was identified as Maria Servas (87), of Irvine, California.

The driver of the vehicle was contacted at the scene by officers and cooperated with the investigation. Officers determined the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the cause of the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Christopher Ostrowski at 949-724-7047.
