Santa Ana Police detectives have arrested a 19-year-old male suspect for a fatal shooting that occurred on April 28, 2022.

On Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 7:23 p.m., Santa Ana Police communications received reports of a shooting in the west alley of 1400 S. Minnie Street in Santa Ana.

Officers responded to the scene and located an unresponsive 20-year-old male inside a vehicle, identified as Robert Izelo of Tustin, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his upper torso. A second adult male victim was located at the scene with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

Orange County Fire Authority arrived and transported both victims to a local hospital. Despite life-saving measures, Izelo was pronounced deceased at the hospital and the second victim survived his injuries.

Update:

Santa Ana Police Homicide Unit has been diligently investigating this case since 2022 and determined the homicide was gang-related. Detectives identified the shooter as 19-year-old Kevin Chavez of Santa Ana, who was 17-1⁄2 years old at the time of the homicide. On July 12, 2024, Chavez was arrested in Santa Ana and booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall. In concurrence with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Chavez was charged with Penal Code § 187(a) – Murder.
