Lsat night two drivers decided to engage in a street race near Von Karman and McGaw, according to the Irvine Police Department.
It was less “Fast and Furious” and more “Oops, we didn’t see that police car!”
No kidding, they raced right past a marked black and white police car.
They then found out the hard way that Irvine is not a Formula 1 track…
The two drivers were stopped and awarded citations and 30-day impounds for their efforts.
If you are curious, yes, that is a yellow security jacket.

Additionally, spectators at illegal street racing events can also face penalties.
Problem is the people in Irvine and Newport Beach doing this in $150k vehicles couldn’t care less about a $500 fine. All our motor vehicle fines should be dependent on income. The wealthy simply buy their way through the system without consequence.
