The SAUSD is studying the process of establishing trustee areas, and elections by trustee areas. This is very good news! Currently most of the SAUSD Trustees live in north Santa Ana – that means that most of our residents are not well served by their Trustees as they are not in their immediate areas.

The Santa Ana City Council moved to a Ward Specific City Council election model last year so the SAUSD is playing catch up. They still need to pass term limits as well. SAUSD Trustee John Palacio has been on the board for over 20 years! That is ridiculous.

A public hearing is set for 6 p.m. today at Santa Ana High School, located at 520 W. Walnut St., Santa Ana, to gather input on the proposed SAUSD trustee area maps. It will be interesting to see how the current Trustees carve up the trustee maps to try to save their seats. The meeting is set to start at 6 pm and will run to 8 pm.

Beginning June 8, 2021, the Santa Ana Unified School District Board of Education meetings will resume to in-person at the District office with limited capacity as we adhere to all social distancing guidelines. SAUSD will follow all guidelines provided by local, state, and federal health agencies to ensure necessary safety protocols are in place. Face mask is required. 

The Santa Ana Unified School District Special Board of Education meeting will be held in person. Public Presentations (Pursuant to Government Code 54954.3) – In accordance with Board Bylaw 9320, individuals may address the Board on matters on this agenda, because this is a Special Board meeting. During this COVID-19 context, members of the public may address the Board in person, by telephone, or by email.

In-Person Public Comments:

Audience members wishing to address the Board must fill out the Request to Address the Board of Education card located outside the auditorium. This card is to be submitted to the Executive Assistant.

If you would like to email your comments to the Office of the Superintendent at suptoffice@sausd.us.

All emails received by 4:00 p.m. the day of the meeting will be distributed to the Board of Education prior to the start of the open meeting. Comments received after 4:00 p.m. will be distributed to the Board at the earliest opportunity after the meeting.

Individual speakers are allowed three minutes to address the Board on agenda items. The Board may limit the total time for public input on each item to 20 minutes. With the Board’s consent, the Board President may increase or decrease the time allowed for public presentation, depending on the topic and the number of persons wishing to be heard. The Board President may take a poll of speakers for or against a particular issue and may ask that additional persons speak only if they have something new to add.

Meetings are broadcast live on Spectrum cable Channel 31, and re-play broadcast every Saturday at 3 p.m. and Tuesday at 6 p.m. following the Board meeting. Meetings are also available Live and on on-demand video at sausd.tv, sausd.us, and YouTube: sausd tv.

Todos los emails recibidos antes de las 4:00 p.m.. el día de la sesión se distribuirán a la Mesa Directiva antes del comienzo de la sesión abierta. Los comentarios recibidos después de las 4:00 p.m. serán distribuidos a la Mesa Directiva lo más pronto posible después de la sesión.

A los oradores individuales se les permitirán tres minutos para dirigirse a la Mesa Directiva sobre asuntos en la agenda o fuera de la agenda. La Mesa Directiva puede limitar el tiempo total para comentarios del público en cada tema a 20 minutos.
