Egg Rolls

An immigration officer who worked in Santa Ana has been indicted on charges that she took bribes in cash and egg rolls from immigrants seeking citizenship and green cards, according to CBS News.

Federal prosecutors say 47-year-old Mai Nhu Nguyen, an Irvine resident who worked in the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Santa Ana,  was indicted Wednesday on three counts of solicitation of a bribe by a public official, according to Fox News.

Nguyen was arrested on June 6 after allegedly accepting a $2,200 bribe from an immigrant who was seeking United States citizenship. In addition to the bribe earlier this month, the indictment alleges that Nguyen solicited and took bribes from immigrants in 2011, according to Lawfuel.

Prosecutors say Nguyen took 200 egg rolls from a citizenship applicant and received $1,000 and $2,200 bribes from two other immigrants since 2011, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Nguyen worked as an officer for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in Santa Ana where she reviewed immigrants’ applications for benefits, according to the Fresno Bee.
