The Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) released a picture of a male suspect, known as “Eric,” who met his male victim on a dating app., They agreed to go on a date. The suspect learned where the victim lived after picking him up.

Approximately one week later, the suspect was caught on video surveillance forcibly entering the victim’s home and stealing approximately $1,000 worth of personal items.

The victim has been unable to contact “Eric,” who also deleted his profile from the app after the burglary.

If the suspect known as “Eric” is arrested in California for forcibly entering the victim’s home and stealing approximately $1,000 worth of personal items, he could face the following penalties:

  1. First-Degree Burglary (Residential Burglary)
    • This is a felony offense in California.
    • Penalties include 2, 4, or 6 years in state prison.
    • A fine of up to $10,000.
    • It counts as a “strike” under California’s Three Strikes Law.
  2. Aggravated Trespass (if the victim was home during the break-in)
    • Misdemeanor offense.
    • Punishable by up to 364 days in county jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
  3. Possession of Burglary Tools (if applicable)
    • Misdemeanor offense.
    • Punishable by up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Additional penalties may apply if the suspect has prior convictions or if other crimes were committed during the burglary.
