Manuel Chairezcampos Jr., a 29-year-old man, was charged on Friday with a fatal shooting outside a liquor store in Santa Ana. Chairezcampos Jr. was previously convicted of an attempted murder when he was only 15-years-old.

Chairezcampos Jr. is accused of fatally shooting Jorge Velasquez, a 29-year-old resident of Santa Ana, on Sunday, Aug. 13, in a parking lot outside a liquor store at 2734 N. Bristol St., according to the SAPD.

Chairezcampos Jr. is facing felony charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, both felonies, as well as sentencing enhancements for the discharge of a firearm causing death and committing an offense while out on bail for another alleged crime.

Chairezcampos previously pleaded guilty to attempted murder in June 2010 and that gang activity led him to get involved in a shooting on Oct. 24, 2008.

More recently Chairezcampos was out on bail after he was arrested for driving without a valid license on June 14 and then was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Chairezcampos has not yet entered a plea. He is set to be arraigned on Sept. 1 in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
