On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at approximately 8:06 P.M., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a pedestrian down in traffic lanes at 2800 West 1st Street.

Officers responded to the scene and located the pedestrian in the roadway. Orange County Fire Authority also responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital where medical staff declared the pedestrian deceased.

Preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking north, crossing 1st Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling west on 1st Street. The vehicle involved in this collision fled from the scene before officers arrived. The vehicle, along with the driver remain outstanding. Additionally, it is unknown if alcohol played a factor in this collision. However, the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Coincidentally, on January 17, 2023, at approximately 5:55 a.m., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a female pedestrian down in traffic lanes of the same area as Wednesday’s incident, at 2800 block W. 1st Street. The Orange County Fire Authority also responded to the scene, declaring the pedestrian deceased.

The Santa Ana Police Department’s Collision Investigations Unit (CIU) is investigating this collision and are asking anyone with information on the vehicle involved or the driver to contact Investigator L. Bao at (714) 245-8223 or the Santa Ana Police Department’s Traffic Division at (714) 245-8200.
