Milton Louis Mayfield, a 59-year-old man from Anaheim, pleaded guilty on Friday and was immediately sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for killing his friend at a Santa Ana motel back in 2018.

Mayfield killed 55-year-old Deborah Ann Simon of Santa Ana at the Sunshine Village Motel, 1427 E. First St. Police on Oct. 15, 2018. Police investigators said at the time that the two had casually dated.

Police officers later found Mayfield with Simon’s disabled vehicle alongside a road in Tulare County. While Mayfield was talking to CHP officers, he admitted to killing a woman at a motel room in the area of First Street and Grand Avenue in Santa Ana. He was then arrested.

The CHP officers held on to Mayfield while SAPD police officers were able to track down the victim’s body at the motel.

Mayfield was given credit for 1,578 days in jail awaiting trial. That was more than four years. He will have to serve about 11 more years.
