Orange County District Attorney, Press Release
For Immediate Release, Case # 13HF1991: June 19, 2013
NEWPORT BEACH – Law enforcement is seeking the public’s help identifying potential additional victims of a caregiver accused of sexually assaulting a 66-year-old disabled woman. Robert Dumlao Ligayo, 62, Aliso Viejo, was charged today with one felony count of sexual penetration by foreign object by force. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of eight years in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. He is being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on June 26, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. in Department H-1, Harbor Justice Center, Newport Beach.
At the time of the crime, Ligayo is accused of working as a caregiver for Salus Home Care and was hired to take care of Jane Doe and her husband because their disabilities did not allow them to properly care for themselves.
Between January 2013 and June 2013, Ligayo is accused of caring for Jane Doe and sexually assaulting her despite the victim attempting to stop hm. The victim reported the crime to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, who investigated this case, and arrested Ligayo on June 17, 2013.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information or who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Paul Carvo at (714) 347-8794.
If convicted, Ligayo’s lifetime sex offender registration would bar him from entering County recreational areas and City parks which have passed the Sex Offender Ordinance.
