A total of 44 firefighters from the OCFA and the Fountain Valley and Costa Mesa fire departments battled a fire last night outside a landscaping business, Wm. Vandergeest Landscape Care, at the 1900 block of South Yale St., in Santa Ana, not far from Centennial Park, according to the O.C. Register.

This afternoon, a fire under the First Street Bridge over the Santa Ana River was reported. The fire intensity was aided by propane and liquid flammable paint.
The damage has forced the closure of all three lanes in the westbound direction until further notice. The closure will not impact access to residents or businesses between the Bridge and Fairview Street. Continue reading

Nineteen OCFA Firefighters spent were able to put out a fire on Monday evening, at about 8 p.m., at a boarded-up, abandoned house located at the 2600 block of South Orange Ave., in Santa Ana, according to the OCFA.

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today for setting his family’s house on fire after a dispute with the other occupants. Jose Luis Martinez Jr., 34, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of arson of an inhabited property and one felony count of unlawfully causing fire to an inhabited structure. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of nine years in state prison. The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned today, March 6, 2017, in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. A man upset over a recent divorce burned down the house, according to ABC News.
If you live or work anywhere near the Santiago Creek, from Broadway to Main, then you know the area is rife with the homeless. This morning, at about 5:40 a.m., there was a fire at one of the homeless encampments in that area, at the 2700 block of N. Broadway and the 5 Freeway, and firefighters discovered a body after the fire was put out, according to the O.C. Register.
OCFA firefighters were able to put out the fire, which was under a bridge, in about 15 minutes. Then they found the body. Continue reading
An unidentified man in his 50s was arrested after SAPD police officers saw him smashing windows on a second floor balcony at the South Coast Springs apartment complex in the 3600 block of S. Bear Street around 6 a.m., according to the O.C. Register.
The SAPD police officers who responded to the incident heard a fire alarm as they approached the building as well as a man screaming and the sound of windows breaking. Continue reading
