Advisory: SAPD Traffic Investigating A Fatal Traffic Collision, 98 Year-Old Victim

Deceased Victim: Jose Juarez De Martínez (98) Santa Ana

On Monday, September 18th, 2017 at approximately 11:32 am, our officers responded to 4th and Santa Fe Streets regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision with the pedestrian still down in the roadway. OCFA responded and transported the elderly male, with head injuries, to a local hospital for treatment.

According to involved parties and witnesses, the victim was crossing 4th in a southerly direction at Santa Fe on a motorized scooter in an unmarked crosswalk as vehicles approached from both directions. As a vehicle approaching from the east swerved to avoid striking the victim, he quickly turned his scooter to the left causing it to tip over resulting in him striking his head on the roadway. The victim died from his injuries today at 11:17am.
