Women's volleyball at the SAUSD

(May 13, 2015) – Santa Ana Unified School District’s Segerstrom High School will be the host location of the USA Volleyball doubleheader featuring both the U.S. Women’s and Men’s National Teams this Friday, May 15, 2015. Students and their families are invited to attend back-to-back matches beginning with the U.S. Women at 5:30 p.m., followed by the U.S. Men at 7:30 p.m. An autograph session will follow at the conclusion of the men’s match.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to have access to such talented athletes. It’s inspiring and uplifting for them to watch some of the most powerful forces in world of volleyball right here in their community,” said Deidra Powell, Chief Communications Officer for the Santa Ana Unified School District.

The U.S. Women team is ranked No. 1 in the world by FIVB and is coming off winning the 2014 FIVB World Championship. The U.S. Men team is ranked No. 5 in the world and is preparing to defend their FIVB World League title won in 2014.

Admission is $5.00 to watch both matches. Youth ages 18 and under are admitted free as well as the parents of the students who are part of the Starlings Club, an intermediate girl’s Volleyball team with instruction from the U.S. Women’s Volleyball team. Several intermediate schools in the Santa Ana Unified School District offer the Starlings Club on campus to provide volleyball opportunities for girls.
