Santa Ana City Councilwoman Jessie Lopez has announced her campaign for California’s open 68th Assembly District to represent the cities of Santa Ana, Anaheim, and Orange.
There are two other Santa Ana City Council candidates who previously announced their campaigns for the 68th Assembly District – Lopez’ fellow woke anti-police colleague Johnathan Ryan Hernandez and pro-police Councilman David Penaloza. They are all registered Democrats.
Both Lopez and Hernandez were reelected last November and are already looking to bail on their constituents. They both have had issues securing full time employment so the move to the State Assembly would be a financial improvement for them.
It makes no sense for Lopez and Hernandez to both run for this seat as they will split the woke vote. But perhaps Lopez is looking to benefit from being the only announced woman for this seat?
Here is Lopez’ press release:
I was born and raised in our community, and I know firsthand the struggles that hardworking families face—rising costs of food, housing, and education making it harder to get ahead. On the City Council, I’ve never backed down from the tough fights. I’ve taken on powerful special interests to tackle the homelessness crisis, expand affordable housing, invest in clean air and water, and demand real accountability and transparency at City Hall. My record is clear: I stand with working families, and I get results.
In the State Assembly, I’ll keep up the fight to make life more affordable—bringing down utility and housing costs, fully funding our public schools, and holding big corporations accountable for price gouging working families. Orange County families can count on me to stand strong against Donald Trump and MAGA extremists to protect our rights, keep immigrant families together, and defend abortion access.
And I am excited to kick off my campaign with the endorsement of my friends at OC Action, a grassroots powered movement that has been leading the fight for underrepresented communities across Orange County.
OC Action’s Executive Director Jonathan Paik said:
“OC Action is proud to endorse Jessie Lopez for Assembly. A people-centered leader, she has been a champion for our issues from the very beginning, from housing to environmental justice. She is a leader that delivers for our communities—passing and codifying 3% rent control, expanding park spaces, and passing anti-corruption policies. Together, we’ll be able to see and work with the progressive champion we’ve needed to represent Orange County in Sacramento.”
Art, I’m looking forward to the fights ahead because I believe California can be the golden state so many of our families dreamed of when they came searching for opportunity, and I’m committed to fight for our right to thrive.
Her press release is so generic AI could have written it. Just type in the cliches: Working families, clean air, grassroots movement, under-represented communities, and ChatGPT will spit out a mission statement almost identical to this one! What a joke!
