Property Tax Sale Auction on Thursday, May 31, 2012

Santa Ana, CA – Orange County Treasurer Shari L. Freidenrich announced that the next tax auction is Thursday, May 31, at 10:00 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors Hearing Room at 333 W. Santa Ana Boulevard, Building 10, Santa Ana. All bidders must pre-register on May 30, and registration information is available on the website at bos.ocgov.com/taxauction. To register your e-mail for tax auction information, just go to bos.ocgov.com/taxauctionreminder.

“We currently have 15 improved properties and 12 unimproved parcels to auction,” stated Freidenrich. The Treasurer will not auction off properties that have paid all taxes and delinquent charges in full by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30.

Interested bidders can obtain a registration packet and a bid card on Wednesday, May 30 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm at the public counter (G58) in the Office of the Treasurer-Tax Collector. A $5,000 refundable deposit (cash/cashier’s check only) and valid photo identification are required to register.

Under California law, properties become subject to the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s “power to sell” and can be sold at a tax auction after they have been in default for five or more years. The Treasurer sets the minimum bids based on the total amount of delinquent taxes, penalties, and selling costs. This is a “buyer beware sale,” and the properties are sold “as is.” Some liens may not be discharged by the sale, check out the detailed information on the website.

For more information and to view the list of properties for sale (updated daily), go to bos.ocgov.com/taxauction or call 714-834-3411.
