Police officers attempted to make a bicycle stop in the area of Bolsa Avenue and Purdy Street on Tuesday night, 10/14/2025, at 11 p.m., according to the Westminster Police Department.
The subject in question did not stop and a pursuit was initiated. The subject attempted to flee but was ultimately taken into custody.
Why was the suspect running? Well, a records check revealed the subject had 7 felony warrants, including multiple warrants for drug sales, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Additionally, the suspect was in possession of 200 grams of methamphetamine, 15 grams of fentanyl, and other items indicative of drug sales.
The suspect was booked at the Orange County Jail for drug sales, warrants, and evading. This is another instance of WPD officers conducting proactive policing to keep the city safe.
Here’s a summary of the penalties the suspect could face under California law:
- Felony Warrants: Each warrant represents a separate criminal case. If convicted, the suspect could face multiple prison terms, possibly served consecutively.
- Drug Sales (Methamphetamine and Fentanyl):
- Possession for sale of methamphetamine is punishable by 2, 3, or 4 years in state prison.
- Possession for sale of fentanyl carries 2 to 4 years, but penalties may be enhanced due to the drug’s danger and quantity.
- Fines can reach up to $20,000 per offense.
- Sentences may increase if the suspect has prior drug convictions.
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm:
- This is a felony punishable by up to 3 years in state prison.
- Additional penalties may apply if the firearm was loaded or used during another crime.
- Evading Police:
- If charged as a misdemeanor: up to 1 year in county jail.
- If charged as a felony (especially if there was danger to others): 16 months, 2 years, or 3 years in state prison.
- Sentencing Enhancements:
- Because multiple felonies are involved, the suspect may face sentencing enhancements under California’s repeat offender laws.
- If gang involvement or firearm use is proven, additional years may be added.
- Restitution and Supervision:
