Olegario Sigifredo Sorianosantos, a 47-year-old man, was charged Tuesday, May 9, with sexually assaulting a 9-year-old female relative in Santa Ana 19 years ago, according to the O.C. Register.

Sorianosantos is facing felony charges of two counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and two counts of forcible lewd acts on a child, as well as a sentencing enhancement allegation for substantial sexual conduct.

The molestation charges are for actions that allegedly occurred from March of 1998 to 2000. Sorianosantos apparently lived with the victim for about a year at that time, according to the OCDA.

The victim finally told authorities what happened when she saw Sorianosantos in her neighborhood again and became scared.

The victim was able to file charges despite the length of time that has passed since the alleged sexual assaults due to a change in state law that can keep such cases open until the victim is 40 years of age. Previously that age limit was set at 28.
