Advisory: High Wind Warning in Effect Now through Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 4:00 PM

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning, which will be in effect until Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 4:00 PM.

WINDS

Areas of northeast winds of 25 to 35 MPH with gusts of up to 55 MPH are expected. Isolated gusts of up to 80 MPH are expected this morning and again on Thursday.

TIMING

The strongest and most widespread winds are expected this morning and again late Wednesday night through Thursday.

LOCATION

The strongest gusts will be below the Cajon Pass, and along the coastal slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains into adjacent portions of inland Orange County. Strongest winds will also transition into San Diego County canyons and foothills late Wednesday night and Thursday.

IMPACTS

A High Wind Warning means damaging high winds are likely. During the periods of stronger winds, there could be power outages and damaged or toppled trees. Travel will be hazardous in high profile vehicles. Secure loose objects such as patio furniture and holiday decorations.

OUTLOOK

Weaker but still gusty northeast winds are expected to continue into Friday and Saturday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

A high wind warning means that damaging high winds of 58 MPH or greater are likely or imminent. Please secure all loose outdoor furniture in advance of the onset of strong winds. Be sure to monitor the latest forecasts on NOAA Weather Radio or your favorite media source.

As of 12:00 PM today, the City’s Public Works Agency has activated its storm protocol to ensure. If you experience any issues with fallen or broken trees in the public right-of-way, please contact the Public Works Agency’s Maintenance and Repair dispatch line at (714) 647-3380 during normal operating hours or the Emergency After-Hours dispatch line at (714) 834-4211 outside of normal operating hours. For emergencies, please dial 9-1-1.
