There are quite a few local politicians, including several on the Santa Ana City Council, who would like to stop the police from pulling drivers over for California Vehicle Code (CVC) violations. These same council members also want the police to leave gangbangers alone. However once again we have an example of why police officers need to be able to pull over gang suspects as they quite often turn out to be committing many other crimes.

On Friday night, a Westminster police officer conducted a traffic stop for a CVC violation in the area of Sigler Park. The occupants in the vehicle were associated with a local criminal street gang. A vehicle search later revealed a non-serialized handgun, also known as a “ghost” gun. Drug and drug paraphernalia were also located in the vehicle.

All the occupants were subsequently arrested for various charges.
