A Fontana man, Joseph Alcazar, 30-years-old, was arrested after Rosenda Elizabeth Smiley, a 14-year-old girl from Rialto, was killed on Saturday night in a collision on the Balboa Peninsula as she walked in the area of Balboa Boulevard and Palm Street, about a block from the Balboa Fun Zone in Orange County.

Smiley was pronounced deat at the scene by the responding emergency crews.

According to police officers, Alcazar stopped at the scene after the accident and cooperated with the police.

He was later booked on suspicion of homicide by traffic fatality and cruelty to a child.

Newport Beach police investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash but have not provide any further details.
