OCDA AND APD SEEK PUBLIC’S HELP IDENTIFYING POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL VICTIMS OF MAN WHO USED FACEBOOK TO OBTAIN SEXUALLY EXPLICIT PHOTOS AND VIDEOS FROM UNDERAGE GIRL

SANTA ANA – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office and Anaheim Police Department (APD) are seeking the public’s help identifying potential additional victims of a man who posed as a teenage boy on Facebook to obtain sexually explicit photos and videos from an underage girl through extortion. Victor Alfonso Pineda, 23, Anaheim, was charged today with seven felony counts of contacting a minor with intent to possess child pornography, three felony counts of threatening letter for extortion, two felony counts of extortion by force or threat, and two felony counts of attempting to use a minor for sex acts. Pineda faces a maximum sentence of 11 years and four months in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. He was arraigned today and is being held on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on May 5, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. in Department N-12, North Justice Center, Fullerton.

Between Oct. 12, 2013, and Feb. 20, 2014, Pineda is accused of using a Facebook account to pose as a male high school student by using the image of a boy with the intent to befriend underage girls. Pineda is accused of establishing inappropriate contact with at least six underage girls between the ages of 12 and 14.

Between Jan. 17, 2014, and Feb. 20, 2014, Pineda is accused of contacting 14-year-old Jane Doe #1 and befriending her using his fake Facebook account. He is accused of persuading and directing Jane Doe #1 to send nude photos of herself to the defendant. Pineda is accused of extorting Jane Doe #1 by ordering her to send additional sexually explicit photos and videos of herself to the defendant by threatening to share the photos of the victim with other high school students.

Pineda is accused of extorting Jane Doe #1 by directing her to take nude photos of a female relative, 12-year-old Jane Doe #2. He is then accused of contacting Jane Doe #2 through Facebook and extorting her to send additional nude photos of herself and an adult female relative or threatening to make the nude photos taken by Jane Doe #1 public.

The adult female relative contacted APD after Jane Doe #2 showed her the Facebook messages. APD investigated this case and arrested the defendant Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Upon further investigation by APD, four additional victims were discovered. Pineda is accused of befriending Jane Doe’s #3, #4, #5, and #6 through Facebook and attempting to persuade them to send sexually explicit photos of themselves to the defendant.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information or who thinks they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Paul Carvo at (714) 347-8794 or APD Detective Michael Cunha at (714) 765-1976.
