A hit and run driver sheared off the top of a fire hydrant at Sunflower and Bristol, next to Maggianos, on Saturday, August 22, according to the Costa Mesa Police Dept.

Traffic was temporarily shut down on eastbound Sunflower due to flooding.

Costa Mesa Fire Department crew members utilized a special tool to shut off the fire hydrant and provided assistance to all those individuals involved.

The cause was a hit and run traffic collision and the Costa Mesa Police are investigating.
