Anaheim police officers assisted Corona Police Department and CHP officers today with a man in his 40’s who barricaded himself inside a vehicle in the westbound lanes of the 91, east of Lakeview Ave., according to the Anaheim Police Dept.
Both directions of the 91 were shut down at Lakeview Ave. All freeway traffic was diverted off the freeway, significantly impacting traffic in East Anaheim and Anaheim Hills.
Freeway closures included:
- W/B 91 at Imperial Hwy.
- E/B 91 at Lakeview Ave.
- N/B 55 to E/B 91 connector
The stand-off finally concluded two hours ago. The Eastbound lanes of the 91 were reopened. The Westbound lanes, between Imperial Hwy. and Lakeview Ave., were still closed two hours ago.
The police chase originated in Corona and eventually came to a stop on the freeway.
Police officers began to pursue the suspect at 8 a.m. today. The Corona police officers had located a stalking suspect driving near the intersection of McKinley Street and Griffin Way. The suspect sped off and eventually stopped on the 91 Freeway.
The suspect, who was believed to be armed never came out of the vehicle willingly. The police officers saw movement in the car at one point and fired flash bangs into it. They then dragged the man out of the car and he appeared to be unconcious.
The man later died for unkown reasons. A Corona police spokesperson told the media that officers at the scene did not use any force that caused his death, according to ABC News.
