On Saturday morning, at approximately 7:30 a.m., police officers responded to the 700 block of Timberwood about vandalized vehicles, according to the Irvine Police Department.

While the police officers were on scene, it was discovered that a nearby home window had been shot with bullets. It was believed that the incidents were related.

When officers tried to contact the 47-year-old suspect, who resided in the area, he declined to speak with them.

At around 6:00 p.m., the officers tried to serve a warrant at the man’s residence, but he refused to surrender.

After more than eight hours of careful, methodical work, the IPD SWAT team safely took the individual into custody after officers just used a distraction device that made a loud boom sound.

The IPD appreciates the community’s patience while the officers resolved this situation peacefully.
