During National Public Works Week May 17-23, the City of Santa Ana recognizes the City’s Public Works Traffic Management Center (TMC) for their state of the art facility located in City Hall. The center is the hub for traffic signal operations and data management. The TMC provides a centralized location for engineers to monitor, manage and investigate traffic flow throughout the City.

Santa Ana’s Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is the integration of various intelligent transportation systems (ITS) elements that includes over 300 traffic signals, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, advanced data collection sensors and a robust fiber optic communication network.

The ATMS allows engineers to monitor traffic in real-time and make appropriate adjustments to traffic signal timing to help improve traffic flow. The strategically situated ITS elements assist engineers to monitor and maintain traffic signal synchronization along the City’s most heavily traveled streets. The synchronized traffic signal system helps reduce traffic congestion and air pollution emissions by maximizing the traffic progression through the system.
