Huntington Beach Police Department Press Release

On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at approximately 6:26 a.m., the Huntington Beach Police Department received reports of shots fired in a condominium complex near Pacific Coast Highway and Coral Cay.

Officers arrived on scene and determined that a resident had discharged a shotgun multiple times inside his residence, striking several neighboring units. The area was immediately contained, and officers evacuated several nearby residents out of an abundance of caution.

As a safety precaution, Pacific Coast Highway was temporarily shut down in both directions during the incident.

At approximately 7:50 a.m., the suspect peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries reported.

The Huntington Beach Police Department thanks the community for its continued support and cooperation during emergency response situations.

No further information will be released at this time.

Based on the reported facts—discharging a firearm multiple times inside a residence and striking neighboring units—the suspect could potentially face several serious charges under California law, including:

Possible Charges:

  1. Discharging a Firearm in a Grossly Negligent Manner – Penal Code § 246.3
    • This felony involves firing a gun in a way that could result in injury or death.
  2. Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling – Penal Code § 246
    • A felony punishable by up to 7 years in state prison.
  3. Reckless Endangerment – Penal Code § 273a
    • If any residents were placed in danger, this could apply.
  4. Illegal Possession of a Firearm (if applicable)
    • Depending on the suspect’s criminal history or firearm registration status.
  5. Disturbing the Peace or Creating a Public Nuisance
    • Lesser charges may also be added depending on the circumstances.

Additional Considerations:

  • No injuries were reported, which may reduce the severity of sentencing.
  • Peaceful surrender could be a mitigating factor.
  • Evacuation and road closures may influence public safety-related charges.
