UPDATE: Detectives Arrest Suspect Wanted in Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Rape Case

On April 29, 2015, Luis Javier Cervantes, age 25, entered the home of his estranged wife located in the 1600 block of North Parton Street and waited for her to return. When the victim returned, she discovered Cervantes. An argument ensued regarding their marital situation. The victim alleges Cervantes then sexually assaulted her and stabbed her in the head. He fled the scene in her vehicle. Cervantes told the victim he wanted to commit “suicide by cop” and there were indications he had access to weapons.

Santa Ana Police detectives immediately began investigating this case, and secured a warrant for Cervantes’ arrest. The victim’s vehicle was found abandoned in the city of Anaheim at approximately 7:00 am on April 29. Detectives attempted to locate Cervantes in the area, but were unsuccessful. Eventually, detectives developed information that the suspect was hiding at a location in the city of Fullerton.

On April 30, 2015 at about 1845 hours, detectives learned Cervantes was staying in a mobile home located at 2616 W. Orangethorpe in Fullerton. Cervantes was taken into custody without incident after officers demanded he come out from the mobile home. Cervantes was booked at the Orange County Jail on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Rape. Additional charges are possible pending a full review of the completed investigation. His bail is set at $1,000,000.00.

The female adult victim arrived home in the early hours of the morning with her two children, 6 and 7 years old, and put them to bed. As she moved to another room in the residence, she was assaulted by her estranged husband, Javier Luis Cervantes (24), who was lying in wait for the victim. The suspect sexually assaulted the victim and stabbed her multiple times with a knife, causing injuries and severe bleeding. The victim escaped from the apartment and called police. The suspect fled prior to police arriving. Cervantes escaped and stole her 2013 silver Ford Edge, license plate number: 6WPY897.

The children were unharmed and the victim was transported to a local hospital where she is in stable condition. Santa Ana Police Detectives are handling the case and attempting to locate the suspect.
