While the Disney Company, through the SOAR PAC, has been propping up Tom Daly’s lame campaign for the 69th Assembly District, he is being outworked by his leading opponent – Santa Ana Councilwoman Michele Martinez.  Just look at the endorsements she has racked up thus far:

  • Assemblyman Ben Hueso
  • Assemblyman Roger Hernandez
  • Assemblyman Ricardo Lara
  • Assemblyman Henry Perea
  • Assemblyman Jose Solorio
  • Ret. Senator Martha Escuita
  • Ret. Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez
  • Ret. Assemblyman Alberto Torrico
  • Santa Ana, Mayor Miguel Pulido
  • Santa Ana, Councilmember David Benavides
  • Santa Ana, Councilmember Sal Tinajero
  • Santa Ana, Councilmember, Vince Sarmiento
  • Garden Grove, Councilmember, Dina Nguyen
  • Garden Grove, Former Councilmember, Mark Rosen
  • Brea, Councilmember, Ron Garcia
  • Lake Forest, Councilmember, Kathryn McCullough
  • San Juan Capistrano, Councilmember, Laura Freese
  •  Montebello School Board, Gerri Guzman
  •  Cudahy, Mayor Josue Barrios
  •  El Monte, Councilmember, Joseph Gonzalez
  •  Bell Gardens, Sergio Infanzon
  •  Southgate, Jorge Morales
  •  Hawthorne, Mayor Protem, Alex Vargas
  •  Hawthorne, School Board, John Vargas
  •  Santa Ana, Planning Commissioner, Eric Adelrete
  •  Santa Ana, Planning Commissioner, Patrick Correa
  •  Santa Ana, Planning Commissioner, Sean Mill
  •  Santa Ana, Housing and Redevelopment Commissioner, Lynnette Verino
  •  Santa Ana, Housing and Redevelopment Commissioner, Monica Garcia
  •  Santa Ana, Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Ken Nguyen
  •  Santa Ana, Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Max Madrid
  •  Santa Ana, Youth Chair Commissioner, Jonathan Espinoza
  •  Santa Ana, Environmental and Transportation Commissioner, Don Cribb
  •  Santa Ana, Environmental and Transportation Commissioner, Kim Olson
  •  HOPE, PAC
  •  (Partial Listing)
Impressive!  And I hear she has a good shot at landing the endorsement of the California Assembly Latino Caucus.
Martinez notes on her website that “the newly reapportioned Assembly district is extremely diverse- it has a population that is 78.3% Latino, 9.7% Asian and 1.5% African American (2010 Census). ”  All the more reason to elect Martinez, not Daly.
Click here to get involved in her campaign and click here to contribute to the effort.
What about the other Democratic candidate?  Well, Julio Perez continues to be unknown in the district and the Disney Company took away his biggest campaign issue when they settled their contract with their hotel workers.  Game over for Perez!

  1. Tom Gordon emphatically tells me he’s not Dan C’s anonymous troll, and I believe him. It must be some f–ing scumbag who sits at the end of the bar at Drinking Liberally. Whatever…

  2. Ok guys, sorry I asked some questions. It seems my comments were the fuel that set another fire.
These differences, as I can see them, are personal and not political.

    This is a shame.

Believe it or not Stan, I have missed you. I hope you are doing well!

    Take care every one.
    Luis

    1. No my friend, they are political. For whatever reason the Lib OC has allied with some of the biggest Mexican bashers in Santa Ana – mostly Republicans.

I don’t know what to make of Vern and the OJ. For some reason I am the enemy. As I said before, I am still fighting for the same things I have always fought for. Vern doesn’t get it. And now his writer Diamond has me in his sights, the same as the Lib OC.

You are lucky you got the heck out of here. It is a mess.

  3. “Believe it or not Stan, I have missed you. I hope you are doing well!”…… Hmmmmm

Old Bohemian cliché: ´´odříkaného chleba největší krajíc´´

Freely translated: We like what we rejecting.

Ja, I am doing just a OK, keeping bolsheviks at line here.

  4. I MADE THE HATE LIST! YEAH!

I’ll use this opportunity to ask Mr. Chmielwinski, why is OK to call Sal Tinejero FAT but, not Beth Krom?

It is the hypocrisy that kills me and some people exude self serving phonyness.

  5. You’re paranoid, Art. Neither Greg nor I have you in our sights or think of you as an enemy. There’s another gang that does though.

Wait … how did this argument start? It’s all good, Luis, don’t stress. Best to your girl.

  6. Popping back in just to say: how many times have I mentioned Art in OJB versus my mentioning him? Where we’ve disagreed, I’ve generally come here and had it out with him on on his turf, where he (still) moderates my comments. But he’s shrieking about my having him in his sights? I think that I just have thicker skin than he does.

OK, popping back out again, since I realize that this is useless. “It’s Chinatown, Vern.”

      1. Thanks for letting me know. It’s good to know that all of Fiala’s comments have been specifically approved.

  7. My involvement started by stating my opinion.

I was imediately attacked by Mr. Diamond, who thinks I am a male Republican Blogger??? That is a familiar tactic from political operators like Diamond.

An attorney, who can’t vote in the election co-hosts a fund-raiser in a neighboring district. Sounds EXACTLY like the kind of thing the OCCUPY people are protesting about: Undue influence. Oh, but that doesn’nt matter.

    Total Posers.

  8. “It’s good to know that all of Fiala’s comments have been specifically approved.”…… Hmmmmmm

Since when the First Amendment needs to be approved.

Any legally trained person knows or should known about unalienable rights.

However, I do not believe that this is a proper forum for me to disuse your anti-Gentile hate.

Therefore, if you have any further anti-Gentile hate to express to me you should send me the summons.

In same time freshen up on C.C.P. Section 425.16 though you ambulance chaser!

CAVEAT: Any further reference to my name by you will be interpreted as provocation and anti-Gentile hate.

I believe that it is about time to file a complaint with California State Bar.

  9. Art: “Litigious”? That wasn’t a legal complaint, was it? I believe that you’re familiar with the difference between a summons and an e-mail. It was a raised eyebrow. You moderate comments routinely, but rabid bigotry is OK? OK.

OCDem: Is that where “your involvement started” — the first comment you’ve made about me in this (and other) blogs? Don’t bother straining yourself to remember: it isn’t. Your pretending innocence is just silliness.

Fiala: I have no animus towards Gentiles; in fact, I’ve married a couple of them. (Decades apart, though.) I am not, however, a fan of bigots. “If it walks like a duck …” — you know. As for a complaint with the State Bar — that’s always your (or anyone’s) right, but spurious complaints are not without consequences.

Vern: Yes, those were approved too. Perhaps it is because they were approved of?

    1. “Your pals at the Liberal OC” — Chris and I get along, but I think “pals” overstates it. I’m not close to Dan.

I’m not generally a fan of Republicans. If they’re attacking Mexicans for being Mexican, I definitely am not a fan. If they’re attacking people who happen to be Mexican for reasons unrelated to ethnicity — such as for corruption or something — then I’d want to hear the basis for the attacks before forming an opinion. I don’t think that I’ve expressed an opinion so far.

Why do you moderate all comments if not to vet them?

I tend not to read the Lib OC. That’s not a slam against it; I just generally don’t get around to it. I wouldn’t generally read New Santa Ana either except that its RSS feed is on OJB and people keep letting me know things like “Art is slamming you again.”

      1. Why? Because your pals often try to post anon comments here that are direct attacks on me and my family. To be honest with you, I don’t think I own them a platform to attack me, not when they can do it on the OJ or the Lib OC.

You slammed me first Diamond, so don’t go crying now. You started this. You own the outcome.

        1. Yet Fiala’s comments are OK. Well, it’s your blog.

Don’t worry, I won’t go crying. Someone’s crying is what led my publisher to agree to delete the cute Photoshop I did, but I didn’t cry about its removal either. It’s his blog, after all.

I slammed you for gay baiting, as you may remember. I’ll gladly own that.

By the way, your whole last paragraph was a non-sequitur. Too bad that you chose, for whatever reason, not to address what I wrote. My second paragraph deserved better treatment. But don’t worry, I’m sure that no one noticed.

Defamation No1: “I am not, however, a fan of bigots. “If it walks like a duck …” — you know.”

    and counting!

  11. Demonstrably untrue, Art. If I insulted you in paragraph 4 I’d hear about it from you and your anonymous friends for months.

Stanislaw, every time you opine about the law, God kills a kitten.

  12. Tentative [Notice of intent to file complaint against Esq. Gregory Avergon Diamond – #256598 (“DIAMOND”) and a writer for the Political Mosh Pit (“PMP”), a violence promulgating acronym, for numerous defamatory published statements, implied threats and fears made willfully, wantonly and capriciously with malice by DIAMOND in the New Santa Ana (“NSA”) and in the PMP aka OJB, to intimidate FIALA directly and indirectly via the Admin to force FIALA’S suspension of the posting privileges in the NSA, by inducing the fear, causing FIALA intentional infliction of emotional distress (“IIED”), a tort, in spite of the numerous demands made by FIALA to cease and desist (“C&D”), such torts, FIALA have been forced to prepare a complaint, properly addressed and first class postage prepaid, to California Barr Association should DIAMOND continue to violate FIALA’S C&D]

    1. I’m sure that their investigation would be facilitated by the fact that all of our communication has been in public. I hope that you’ll be fair in compiling all of it, without editing or omission, should you file such a complaint.

For me to say anything but “do as you will” would be giving into thuggery, Stanislaw. Your willingness to (at least pretend to) threaten my livelihood in such a way speaks volumes about you, but I take it for what it is. I don’t know if people whom you threaten in such ways ever stand up to you, or if they just consider your threats to be buffoonery, but I suppose that this might be a learning experience for us all.

Are we done interacting now? Up to you.

  15. I should add,

As to your livelihood please refer to “cast the first stoneJohn 8:7, better known to you as “The Unclean Hands Doctrine” — freshen-up in hurry law freshman.

  16. Stanislaw, you are irresistible. Every time I try to get out you pull me back in.

What is the “Unclean Hands doctrine” and how would it apply to our discussion?

Note: I do know what the “unclean hands” doctrine is and how and where it would be applied. I just want to know if you know — or what you think you know. A real man would not only now look it up, by the way.

My sense is that you might as well be yammering about a scabies-infested German grammar school classmate of yours from half a century ago to whom people referred sotto voce as “Unclean Hans.”

  21. Interesting that they are all about free speech as Occupiers but now they have joined the LOC bloggers in being hypocrites when it comes to free speech on blogs…

  22. Well Vern, between you trying to figure out who are anon commenters are and Diamond making legal threats to Fiala, it sure doesn’t look like you two are committed to free speech…

  23. “and I forget who else”…… Hmmmmm

    Well, Stanislav Star… No?

Vern, darling this thread is somewhat above your Mater Dai Intellectual level so you can get easily hurt here.

    I tell you what.

Let me invite you to Velvet Lounge, bring your piano and clean g-strings, I will sing “I need some one to love” and when Chief Walters will not look (since he is inspecting the place) we can sneak behind your piano and you can kiss my ass.

Does it sound like good time honey?

  24. It sounds to me like it’s Fiala who’s making legal threats to Diamond, as laughable as that idea is.

I don’t usually try to figure out anonymous commenters, but whoever you’ve got here is a special case – he makes fun of Noah Krom’s death, he makes jokes about a blogger’s AIDs, and much more. And Art (or you) happily approves it all. Sure would be nice to unmask this person, and the list of possibilities doesn’t seem big.

    1. There you go again wanting to unmask a commenter. Not cool.

As for Krom’s death, it was tragic but what pray tell came of it? He was not the first to die that way. His mom kept on campaigning. She never, as far as I know, did anything to address the issue of college students at that school getting drunk and falling off that cliff. Why is that? If that happened to my son you can bet I would at least try to help other kids to not meet the same end.

BTW, given your own experience with alcohol, what are you doing to help prevent drunk driving?

As for AIDS, it is no joking matter to be sure, but the LOC crew finds it funny that Sal Tinajero’s dad died when Sal was only a kid, in a tragic shooting. That is not cool either but I don’t recall you having issue with that.

Free speech can get ugly. That is the way it goes Vern. But this tendency on your part and Diamond’s to want retribution against commenters is very much what we have come to expect from the LOC crew.

  25. “It sounds to me like it’s Fiala who’s making legal threats to Diamond, as laughable as that idea is.”…… Hmmmmmm

I told you it is above your head!

Read the “Alleged Cause of Action Counter” to see who is making legal threats against whom.

  26. @Stanley: My understanding from other conversations is that your given name is Stanislaw Fiala. If I’m wrong about the first name, then I do apologize; if you changed your name to Stanley, then I’ll call you Stanley. Just let me know. I do not that think my calling you by your given name is “anti-Gentile.” I find your suggestion that this is somehow the equivalent of calling me “Jew Zionist” to be bizarre, but that’s not my problem.

    @Sean:

    (1) The only reason for moderating all comments is to allow for censorship. If you want to have a free forum, that’s great! But right now — you don’t have one. You moderate all comments. You assert the right to pick and choose. Don’t claim the mantle of free speech. I’ve just noted that to the extent you do pick and choose — as some do, for example, to eliminate florid bigotry — you make some curious choices.

    (2) I think that I’ve left only one or two comments, ever, on Lib OC. I just don’t go there. So, no, I haven’t complained, because … I just don’t go there. As for whether any statements they make about you are defamatory: I oppose defamation. Now, are their statements defamatory as well as being simply mean? That depends on several factors that probably none of us want me to explore. (I’m willing to do it, if need be, but someone would have to pay me.)

    (3) I recall no knowledge of Chris joking about the murder of Sal Tinajero’s father. I don’t like that and, if true — you can link to it if you want — would tell Chris so to his face. Now you may be leaving something out — such as you and he may differ in what constitutes a joke — but if you are correct then I an disappointed.

@Admin1: YOU MODERATE ALL COMMENTS SO YOU CAN CENSOR THEM! GET OFF OF YOUR “FREE SPEECH” HIGH HORSE.

    @Admin2:

    (1) How is a private party speculating as to the identity of an anonymous commenter antagonistic to free speech? If the government forces that information to be divulged, that’s bad. If a private party speculates? That itself is … free speech! Sometimes I think that you don’t understand the concept at all.

    (2) Fiala is posting his commedia dell’arte version of a civil and/or ethics complaint and you say that I’m making legal threats to him? Would you please get a grip on yourself? I have not threatened legal action against Fiala. But if I ever had to defend myself against a frivolous claim of his, do you really think that I would not ask for costs? Do you know the difference between that and “threatening legal action”? I accept that this apparently looks to you like a lack of commitment to free speech; all I can hope is that some friend of yours will explain to you the difference.

@Admin3: I find this whole comment of yours about Krom and Vern to be ugly. (And people who live in glass houses should not get into the “what are you doing to help prevent” game.) Beyond that, the only retribution against bad commenters I generally seek is to make them look like idiots. That’s the ACLU “the answer to bad speech is more speech” way.

  28. “I can’t do shit about what Dan and Chris think is acceptable.”

You could criticize them and ask them to out those that are making such statements on their blog just as you have done here. I cannot recall a single time that you took them to task for some of the horrible things they have allowed to be posted about myself, admin or any of our friends.

I can assure that I am not the “anon” commenter/commenter’s making the statements you have taken issue with. I don’t care if you believe me or not. Funny that the failed candidates word is gold with you given his history of trashing you behind your back.

  29. Sean, do you understand the idea of “this personal beef is between you and them”? I don’t want to do the extensive research to determine who’s right. Vern has no more responsibility to be the sheriff of OC blogistan than does anyone else.

I have some substantive disagreements with you and Art — such as the idea that the only people who should be able to write about Santa Ana are those who live in Santa Ana (and more specifically, in practice, those with ties to Santa Ana government) — but these disagreements are not personal. You are simply wrong — it’s not unusual in politics — and I think that wanting to make sure that one’s own operations don’t get examined too carefully comes off as weirdly defensive. But “wrong” and “weird” are pretty weak tea compared to the crap that gets hurled here from tree to tree.

  30. Every time I hear you or Art talking about “people poking noses into our affairs” I feel like I’m one of the gang on Scooby-Doo. Your affairs are not just your affairs. If the LA Times comes knocking, are you going to tell them “go away, you aren’t from Santa Ana”? It’s absurd — and it’s offensive in a city official. It makes people wonder if Santa Ana is like the City of Bell, which I’m SURE did not want people poking around into its affairs.

I presume that you aren’t like Bell, so don’t invite the inference that you are through what is essentially blocking transparency. Frankly, it just increases any decent journalist’s appetite.

  31. “Frankly, it just increases any decent journalist’s appetite.”

That’s the problem Greg. Most, if not all, of these folks are not decent journalists. They are just yayhoos with axes to grind.

Why the great fascination with Santa Ana? Simple, Art and I live here and support the leaders in our city.

Santa Ana’s council is made up of a progressive Democratic majority. Sal Tinajero was the first elected OC to push for benefits for domestic partners. Sal Tinajero was the first elected in OC that pushed for support of Harvey Milk Day. Sal Tinajero has long supported organized labor. Sal Tinajero and most of his colleagues are good solid Dems.

Why do folks on a blog claiming to challenge the right wing noise machine and folks on your blog attack he and his allies regularly? Answer…Because he is my friend.

None of these shenanigans are political, they are all personal. Don’t try and point the finger soley at Art and I.

If and when a decent unbiased journalist comes knocking, my door is wide open and welcoming.

  32. I don’t remember me or anyone on my blog attacking Sal. I like Sal. I’ve talked to him a few times. Just saw him at a Planned Parenthood event. And you think these imaginary attacks on Sal are all because of YOU, Sean?

    Dangerous narcissism.

  33. “And you think these imaginary attacks on Sal are all because of YOU, Sean?…Dangerous narcissism.”

So what explanation do you have for a blog claiming to be challenging the right wing noise machine to be attacking a solid Dem like Sal?

  34. Well, once again, you think I’m in charge of the Liberal OC. I am not. I have little to do with them. They’re trying to get money from me too. Maybe what you say is true, about them.

Can you tell that we’re two different blogs, two different groups of people?

  35. @Sean: Why the great fascination with the County Seat, 2nd-largest and most Democratic city in OC, which sends the county’s sole Democrats to Congress and the state legislature? Yeah, it’s all you, obviously. Here’s a hint: don’t say that only qualified journalists get to talk to Santa Anans. For the record, I have no problem (that I know of) with Tinajero except for the bad things I read about him from Art regarding, as I recall, Vince Sarmiento’s appointment. (I have even fewer problems with Sarmiento.)

Now why are you attacking me for what LibOC does? Doesn’t that strike you as a bit odd? I have never read about Tinajero in Lib OC. Maybe I’m not fascinated enough with Santa Ana.

    @Vern: Ruh-Roh! Rorry, Rern!

@KLND: AD-69 is part of the state legislature! It’s not City Council! I have to live with the AD-69 rep’s votes and every other legislator’s votes — and so does everyone else.

I’ve blogged for years on Daily Kos and (to a lesser extent) Calitics. I’ve rarely commented in OC blogs before this year. Too much vitriol.

  36. Kenlaysnotdead:

    1. On your side note – is that true? Dozens of fake KLND comments up? That’s f–d up – dozens of BS comments affecting our opinion of KLND! Are some of those on this thread? You really should let Art, and me, know when that happens, so we can either remove them or change the name to something like “Fake Kenlaysnotdead Impersonator Douchebag.”

    2. On your main point, I won’t answer for Greg but for myself – I assume you left me out of your comments because you and I are somewhat friends (by e-mail at least.) Yes, I DO have to live with the votes of Perez or Daly or Michele, whether I’m in HB, Fountain Valley, or wherever I’m hanging my hat that month. THE DECISIONS THEY MAKE ARE MOSTLY STATEWIDE. (Now, if Greg or I were obsessed with the Santa Ana COUNCIL the way Dan and Chris are, you might have a point.)

    3. Don’t be so freaked out by Greg. He’s a good guy. Trust me!

  37. Thank you for this list of endorsements by the way. I am so glad to see all of the Latino Dbag puppets that have been bought off by the Democratic party and Irvine Co. developers.
