Redding-based Black Bear Diner is opening a restaurant in a former Carrow’s at 3355 S. Bristol Ave., Santa Ana in early July, according to the O.C. Register.

Black Bear Diner was founded in 1995. They are a community-oriented, family dining concept that offers a “one-of-a-kind experience in a fun, bear-themed atmosphere,” according to their website.The company has a goal of opening 100 units by 2018.

Since 1999, Ray Schulz has carved over 200 black bear sculptures that are featured outside each of their restaurants.

They have been in business for over 20 years, serving traditional American dinner fare such as chicken fried steak, fried chicken, housemade meatloaf and a variety of steaks. They also serve breakfast and lunch.

According to Yelp, Black Bear Diner is known for huge portions and low prices.

  1. I’m sorry to say my granddaughter ordered a hmbg with just cheese the bun was smashed and it was the size of a McDonald’s hmbg. We thought it was s child one we ask the wsitress about it and she suggested another patty. Bottom line it cost about twelve dollars. The way it looked taste and cost was way off. We were all very disappointed
