A person of interest was speaking with police late Friday after she allegedly posed as a social worker and tried to kidnap a newborn baby from his mother at their Santa Ana home on Friday, according to KTLA.

The suspect claimed to be a social worker when she told a mom at a home located near Evergreen Street and Warner Ave., that she needed to take her newborn son into custody, on Friday at about 11:30 a.m., according to the SAPD.

The mom, who gave birth to her son on May 31, refused to hand her son over to the suspect, when the suspect was not able to provide any identification. The suspect then told the mom that if she did not give her the baby the Sheriff would come to the home.

The mom then told the suspect that if the Sheriff comes and has to arrest her then he can do so but she was not going to give up her child.

The suspect finally left the home after the mom insisted on going with her.

The suspect told the mom that she did not have room in her car for the mom. She then turned around and walked away quickly.

The mom’s sisters caught the suspect on video as she walked away and got into a white SUV.

The SAPD followed up with OC Social Services and confirmed that there was no social worker that matched the description of the suspect or could corroborate the story about needing to seize the child.

Social workers always have identification and paperwork, according to the SAPD.

The suspect then showed up at the SAPD HQ on Friday night and identified herself as the woman in the video. She told the police that the incident was just a misunderstanding.

The SAPD updated this story on their Twitter feed indicating that the suspect, a 38-year-old Santa Ana female Hispanic was booked by the OCDA for attempted kidnapping. SAPD detectives are also working with detectives from L.A and San Bernardino County on possibly related investigations
