On Monday, February 20, 2023, at approximately 3:29 A.M., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a pedestrian down in traffic lanes at Figueroa Street and 1st Street. Officers from the Santa Ana Police Department responded to the scene, where they located the pedestrian in the roadway. Orange County Fire Authority also responded to the scene and declared the pedestrian deceased.
 
Preliminary investigation revealed the male pedestrian was in the eastbound lanes of 1st Street at Figueroa Street. The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle traveling east on 1st Street. The vehicle involved in this collision fled from the scene before the officers arrived.
 
During the investigation, officers located the vehicle parked at a residence. The driver was contacted and taken into custody. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the collision. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
