Michael J. Martinez, a 32-year-old Santa Ana man, was convicted on Friday of fatally stabbing his cousin — 25-year-old Ruben J. Murga of Santa Ana, in Garden Grove last year.

Martinez was convicted of second-degree murder, with jurors also finding true a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon, according to the O.C. Register.

Martinez is facing up to 16 years to life in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 19.

The Garden Grove Police responded to the 13300 block of Lilly Street at 10:36 p.m., Nov. 25, after receiving calls about a disturbance.

When the responding police officers arrived they found the victim lying in a driveway with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

The victim apparently became embroiled in an altercation with several others when he was stabbed.
