A man on a dirt bike died after hitting a light pole and a tree in Santa Ana

A 36-year-old man struck a light pole and a tree in Santa Ana while riding a dirt bike and died at the scene, according to the SAPD.

On Sunday, October 13, 2024, at approximately 9:41 p.m., the Garden Grove Police Department notified Santa Ana Police Communications after responding to a fatal traffic collision in the City of Santa Ana. The collision occurred at the intersection of Westminster Avenue and Rosita Place.

The motorcyclist, identified as Richard Lawrence Odiorne (36) of Garden Grove, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Orange County Fire Authority. Initial reports indicate that Odiorne was traveling eastbound on Westminster Ave. on a dirt bike when he struck a tree and a light pole near Rosita Pl. Unfortunately, Odiorne was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

At this time, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
