A juvenile was taken into custody after driving crazy on an e-bike in Huntington Beach

Around 8:30 pm on Friday, police officers attempted to stop a juvenile riding an illegal electric bicycle (Surron) on the roadway, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.

The rider, who was unlicensed and committing multiple traffic violations—running red signal lights, ignoring stop signs, riding on the wrong side of the road, performing dangerous wheelies, and speeding—chose to flee.

Due to the extreme recklessness, officers discontinued the pursuit for the safety of everyone on the road while their HB-1 police helicopter kept a visual from above. Ultimately, the electric motorcycle’s battery ran out, and the juvenile was safely taken into custody.

The rider was cited for evading police, endangering public safety, and other vehicle code violations. The illegal electric motorcycle was impounded for 30 days, and the juvenile was released to a parent.

Reminder to parents and guardians: Please talk to your children about the dangers of reckless riding. These actions can lead to severe injuries or even death.

The HBPD is committed to enforcing these laws to keep everyone safe on our streets. Let’s work together to prevent unnecessary tragedies.

  1. The headline is misleading and should be changed to say motorcycle not bike. The body of the article states this correctly but the headline incorrectly states it’s an e-bike.

  2. It is a motorized vehicle and should be subject to the Vehicle Code laws. Calling it a “bike” doesn’t change this.

    1. You’re implying CA cares about public safety. E-bikes, despite being human-powered bikes with a lithium ion battery that consumes energy and therefore is a bike with a carbon footprint, are “green transportation”, so CA encourages their use whenever and wherever possible– just like they encourage fleeing from the police whenever and wherever possible. So this kid was doing everything right, he just happened to be in HB where they’re a little behind the times.

  3. 30 day impound…..thats funny, how about confiscate the bike, fine the parents 5k plus PD fees, and the kid gets no license until 21?
