On Sunday, February 19, 2023, around 2322 hrs., Fontana Police Department patrol officers were dispatched to the 6500 block of Citrus Avenue regarding a welfare check.

The police officers arrived a short time later and located a vehicle parked to the front of the business. Inside the vehicle was a 25-year-old adult male, from the city of Garden Grove, suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers attempted lifesaving measures however he was pronounced deceased on scene.

Fontana detectives were notified and assumed the investigation. During the investigation, it was determined the shooting occurred several blocks away. This was not a random attack, as the victim and suspect knew each other.

The Fontana police have not identified the victim nor the suspect as they believe this could compromise their investigation.

The Fontana detectives are actively following up on investigative leads. If you have any additional information, please contact Detective Vanderkallen (909)356-3380.
