A Santa Ana resident was involved in a road rage episode early this Saturday morning that ended in gunshots and a crash, according to the O.C. Register.

A Garden Grove police officer came across a major collision at 1:20 a.m., at the intersection of Harbor Blvd. and Lampson Ave. He quickly ascertained that a shooting had also occurred, according to the Garden Grove Police.

The Garden Grove Police have determined that the incident began when a red 2007 Ford pickup truck and a white 2014 Hyundai sedan were heading westbound on the Garden Grove (22) Freeway when the drivers got upset with each other.

The vehicles got off the freeway and then drove northbound on Harbor Boulevard. They continued to follow each other and then someone in the ford pickup truck shot at the occupants of the Hyundai sedan,” according to the Garden Grove Police.

The shooter was later identified as Pedro Montellana, 22, of Westminster.

The driver of the Hyundai, Juan Batalla-Olmedo, 19, of Santa Ana, then struck the pickup truck with his car. That collision injured one passenger who was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The police later discovered that the gun used in the shooting was in fact a BB gun.

Montellana and Batalla-Olmedo were both arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked at the Orange County Jail.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Garden Grove Police detectives at (714) 731-5800.
