Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Police investigating a reported attack in mall parking structure in which a woman she was robbed and sexually assaulted

Police are investigating a reported attack in a mall parking structure on Wednesday night in which a woman told authorities she was robbed and sexually assaulted.

Officers responded about 5:30 p.m. to reports of a robbery at the Westfield MainPlace mall, Santa Ana. A woman told the officers that as she was getting into her car a man pushed her into the vehicle, brandished a weapon and sexually assaulted her. The victim told officers that she was able to escape and that as she ran for help the suspect stole some of her property and fled.

Authorities described the attacker as a black male in his early 20s.

Police are asking anyone with information Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS. Tips can be left anonymously. Authorities also reminded shoppers to always be aware of their surroundings, particularly when walking to and from their vehicles.
