UPDATE: Police have identified the suspect wanted for a deadly hit-and-run crash as a documented gang member on probation, according to CBS News. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Jorge Ocampo, a documented gang member who was on probation, according to ABC News.
Police are searching for a driver and his passenger after a hit-and-run crash that killed two other motorists Friday at a Santa Ana intersection, according to NBC News.
The crash happened just after 11 a.m. Friday at Cabrillo Park Drive and Fruit Street, across from the Matchpoint Tennis Academy at Cabrillo Park. Two men who were inside a black Audi sedan remain at large in the neighborhood, according to CBS News.
Two men riding in the Nissan, both in their 50s, died a short time after the crash, Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department said. He also said that authorities were searching for two male occupants who were in the Audi, according to KTLA.
After the crash, the passenger from the Audi fled north on foot, he said. The Audi’s driver was first seen trying to open the Nissan’s doors, then walked into a complex of patio homes while talking on a cellphone, according to the OC Register, which also reported that officers searched door-to-door at the complex but did not find the driver, Bertagna said. Detectives are seeking the car’s registered owner to determine the driver’s and passenger’s identities, Bertagna said. The vehicle had not been reported as stolen.
Authorities have set up a perimeter and are searching for the suspect, who is described as in his 20s with a shaved head, according to the Los Angeles Times.
