The SAPD intercepted a major drug shipment and seized meth fentanyl and marijuana

SAPD Special Investigation Detectives successfully intercepted a significant drug shipment, ensuring these dangerous substances will never reach the streets:

  • 586.5 grams of blue M-30 pills suspected to be fentanyl
  • 10 kilos of suspected cocaine wrapped in 10 cellophane packages
  • 7.1 kilos of suspected cocaine vacuumed and sealed into packages
  • 8,784 grams of suspected meth vacuumed and sealed into multiple packages
  • Parcel containing 64 lbs. of THC products
  • 418 grams of marijuana vacuumed and sealed into packages
  • 100 lbs. of parcel containing marijuana/marijuana products
  • 1 firearm with 2 magazines

The SAPD credited their continued and collaborative partnership with multiple shipping partners for the bust.

Here are the penalties for selling methamphetamine, fentanyl, and marijuana in California:

  • Methamphetamine – Possession with intent to sell: This is a felony offense under Health and Safety Code § 11378 HS. It can result in up to 3 years in county jail and fines up to $10,000.
  • Sale or transportation for sale: Under Health and Safety Code § 11379 HS, this felony can lead to 2, 3, or 4 years in jail or prison, with fines up to $10,000.
  • Fentanyl – Selling or distributing: The penalties have been significantly increased due to the severity of the fentanyl crisis. Selling more than one kilogram adds an automatic three years to the original sentence. Penalties increase with the amount, reaching an additional 25 years for trafficking over 80 kilograms.
  • Marijuana – Possession with intent to sell without a license: This is generally a misdemeanor under Health and Safety Code § 11359 HS, punishable by up to 6 months in county jail and/or a fine of up to $500. However, it can be a felony if certain aggravating factors are present.
  • Unlicensed sale or transportation: This is a felony under Health and Safety Code § 11360 HS, punishable by 2, 3, or 4 years in county jail.
