While it seemed that the SAPD was not doing much on the 4th of July, it turns out they were pretty busy. The SAPD has released a breakdown of their 4th of July efforts:

  • Overall Calls for Service Received: 4,097
  • Firework Calls for Service Received: 603
  • Observed Activity: 946
  • Fireworks Seized: 3,449
  • Firearms Recovered: 8
  • Total Arrests: 133

On July 4th, the SAPD dispatchers answered a total of 1,667 incoming calls, 647 of which were 911 calls.

It is obvious to anyone that lives in Santa Ana that we cannot stop the illegal fireworks. It is hopeless. Perhaps we should legalize and tax them. In that scenario the perenially broke City of Santa Ana could make a fortune by taxing the sale of any fireworks, not just the lame safe and safe ones…

  1. It is not wise to legalize fireworks especially during the summer it’s the reason why it gets hotter every year

  2. Your idea wouldn’t work. The tax would make them more expensive, therefore the black market would still exist. Only solution is vigorous enforcement and stiff penalties.
