The Irvine Police issued 19 citations for loud vehicles on Saturday night

The Irvine Police Department deployed High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) officers across Jamboree Road to address complaints about racing vehicles and loud exhaust on Saturday night.

Police officers warned seven drivers, issued 19 citations, inspected three vehicles, and referred two cars to the State Referee.

Drivers operating vehicles with loud, illegally modified exhaust should expect strict enforcement in Irvine. The Irvine Police will continue to deploy these special details at different times and days of the week.

In California, drivers ticketed for having loud exhausts face several penalties. According to California Vehicle Code (CVC) 27150-27151, all vehicles must have a functioning muffler that prevents excessive or unusual noise. For passenger vehicles under 6,000 pounds, the noise limit is 95 decibels.

If a vehicle exceeds this noise limit, the driver can be fined. The fines for a first offense typically range from $25 to $250.

Additionally, California Assembly Bill 1824 (AB 1824) removed the option for drivers to correct an exhaust noise violation with a “fix-it” ticket, making it an immediate violation.

Drivers in Irvine, CA, face similar penalties for loud exhausts as those in the rest of California. According to the Irvine Police Department, excessively loud exhausts violate California Vehicle Code 27150(a), and drivers may be issued a citation.

The fines for a first offense typically range from $25 to $25.
