Last Sunday night, an Irvine police officer saw a suspicious vehicle parked next to a United States Postal Service mailbox. As the officer arrived, the car drove off. He stopped the vehicle and contacted two men. The police officer determined the pair had been fishing mail out of the mailbox.

The two men from LA were arrested and given a ticket for possessing burglary tools. This case remains under investigation, and further charges could be filed.

The Irvine Police Department is seeing an increase in this type of mail theft. If you need to mail checks or other important documents, please hand them to a letter carrier or drop them off inside the post office.
