As a special holiday gift and to celebrate the opening of River’s Edge, the City of Santa Ana is offering Santa Ana residents free admission to the Santa Ana Zoo both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, December 20-21. Adults 18 years or older must bring a current ID with a Santa Ana address or an old ID plus a current utility bill that shows a Santa Ana address.
River’s Edge features habitats for new river otters and three species of monkeys. The public is invited to join the River’s Edge ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday.

New Residents of River’s Edge
- Asian Small-Clawed Otters: A pair of these social, playful otters are the first aquatic residents of the new habitat.
- Mexican Spider Monkeys: These primates can be seen exploring a new treetop trail system that allows them to move overhead throughout the exhibit.
- Black Howler Monkeys: These monkeys inhabit one of the three specialized primate habitats within the expansion.
- Golden Lion Tamarins: Striking, bright-orange primates that are part of the zoo’s ongoing conservation efforts.
- Giant River Otters (Coming Soon): While the habitat is designed for them, these larger South American otters are arriving at a later date as part of a specialized conservation program.
Come join city officials for the official opening of this highly anticipated habitat and visit the Zoo all weekend long hours to see our new furry friends.
The Zoo is open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 1801 E. Chestnut Ave.
