Today, May 8, the OC Health Care Agency reported a total of 3,240 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Orange County and 456 cases in Santa Ana. The Santa Ana case numbers don’t include infected inmates in County jails.

There were 5 new deaths reported today and 71 to date here in Orange County. There are currently a total of 188 victims in local hospitals and 74 of them are in Intensive Care Units.

Here is how other major cities in Orange County are faring:

  • Anaheim reports 472 cases, which means they now have the most cases in Orange County
  • Huntington Beach reports 242 cases
  • Garden Grove reports 169 cases
  • Orange reports 157 cases
  • Irvine reports 142 cases
  • Buena Park reports 104 cases
  • Newport Beach reports 105 cases
  • Fullerton reports 115 cases
  • Westminster reports 52 cases
  • Tustin reports 51 cases
  • Costa Mesa reports 47 cases
  • Fountain Valley reports 41 cases

The California Department of Public Health reported this statewide data as of May 8:

  • Confirmed / Positive Cases: 62,512
  • Hospitalizations confirmed: 3,250
  • Hospitalizations in ICU confirmed: 1,118
  • Deaths: 2,585
  • Positive cases: 62,512
  • Confirmed hospitalizations: 3,250
  • Confirmed ICU hospitalizations: 1,118

The CDC reports these national cases as of May 7:

  • TOTAL CASES: 1,219,066
  • 25,253 New Cases
  • TOTAL DEATHS: 73,297
  • 2,495 New Deaths

Do:

  •  Stay home
  •  Avoid people outside your household
  •  Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  •  Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue
  •  Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
  •  Maintain a safe social distance of 6 feet whenever outside of the house
  •  Wear a cloth face covering if you go outside

Do Not:

  •  Leave the house except for essential activities
  •  Shake hands
  •  Touch your face
  •  Go to doctor unless you call first
  •  Stockpile masks or gloves
