Community: Santa Ana Public Library and the Art of the Telenovela

SANTA ANA, CA (March 5, 2013) – The Santa Ana Public Library is pleased to present the exhibit, Carla Estrada: Her Legacy – 25 Years of Telenovela Production, from March 4, 2013 through March 16, 2013. Telenovelas are a distinctive genre, different from American soap operas. A telenovela is a limited-run dramatic serial very popular in Latin America. Their popularity has extended to mass global appeal. This is especially true of those produced by Carla Estrada, because of her treatment of relevant societal concerns and dilemmas. In many of her productions, controversial themes like discrimination, child abuse, urban violence, and racism are thoughtfully explored. Historical dramas also are a popular subject of Ms. Estrada’s repertoire.

The exhibit consists of posters and costumes from popular telenovelas, photographs, and memorabilia. This exhibit provides a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-live the telenovela experience and explore this cultural phenomenon.

The Carla Estrada: Her Legacy – 25 Years of Telenovela Production exhibit is open free of charge to the general public, March 4 through March 16, 2013, at the Santa Ana Public Library – Meeting Room A, located on the 2nd floor of the library. Exhibit hours are from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

THE SANTA ANA PUBLIC LIBRARY IS LOCATED AT: 26 CIVIC CENTER PLAZA (corner of Civic Center and Ross).

  1. Please join middle aged Latinas from across Santa Ana as we march from the González Northgate Markets on 1st street North to Bowers museum to pay tribute to the Telenovela. We will be stopping at Latino Health Access to make tamales en route. “Si Se Puede” visors and T-Shirts will add a festive touch to this moving march as we celebrate sitting on the couch and watching T.V.

  2. After we pay honer “Lucy” at Bowers we will then walk down Ross st. past Willard, and on to the Library to watch T.V. for the rest of the day. Light pastries and hot coco will be served.
